Students at THS had another great showing at this year's Barter Theater's Young Playwrights Festival. We had several honors out of almost 400 plays! Students write these short plays with feedback from their teachers and then submit them to a select group of Barter professionals for feedback and critique. The Barter professionals narrow them down to finalists, then to semi-finalists, next to honorable mentions, and finally to the top 3 plays.
On Monday, Nov. 7, students who participated were invited to a morning performance of the winning plays. The honorable mentions were given a light reading by Barter actors while the three winning plays were lightly staged. A nighttime performance, along with an awards ceremony and reception, was open to the public that evening. Writers of the top three plays received cash prizes and a mentoring session with a Barter professional, which allowed the students to have valuable one-on-one time with experts in the field of theatre and playwriting. Congratulations to the following students:
Elizabeth Harrison and Emily Roberts placed second overall!
Honorable Mentions went to Sakota Blevins, Madeline Good, and Kiara Hall.
Semi-finalists were Grayson Peak and Taylor Duncan; Evan Ladd, Max Hanson, and Jackson Wayne; Justin Carter; Harley Bickham; and Vince Simmons.
Finalists included Maggie Johnson, Haley Manno, and Braden Talbert.
