THS senior Amelia Taylor recently moved forward in the National Merit Scholarship competition when she advanced to Finalist standing from a group of 16,000 semi-finalists. According to the NMSC news release, “The program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.”
Amelia will continue to vie for one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered this spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semi-finalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semi-finalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
We commend Amelia for her dedication to her academics and extracurriculars; we wish her much luck as she competes to be a Merit Scholar.
